Leadership Summit in Houston on September 23-24, 2011 - Making a Difference
On September 23-24 over 300 attendees participated in our National Leadership Summit : Return to Your Center. Keynote Speakers Dr. Rohini Anand, Senior VP & Global Chief Diversity Officer, Sodexo Inc; Helen Zia, Author, Former Executive Editor of Ms. Magazine, Community Activist and Chloe Dao - Project Runway (Season 2) spoke at the plenary sessions and were enthusiastically received. Over 25 workshops and panels were presented during breakout sessions during the Summit focusing on leadership development through the mind/body connection, speaking powerfully, issues of concern to APA women and our communities.
The Summit is probably best reflected by quotes from a few of the attendees :
"My home is in Seattle, but upon learning about the Leadership Summit in Houston, I resolved to go to find clarity and focus! The Center provided me with scholarship support to attend, without which I would not have experienced the inspirational, whole-person recharge I needed! It was a timely honor to participate in my first national summit, surrounded by world-class leaders in a wonderful city." (A. Carreon)
"Volunteering at the 2011 National Leadership Summit as the Event Coordinator gave me a chance to integrate with other professionals from various countries, backgrounds and industries. It was a vision to see people … eager to learn and enhance their metrics of building leadership skills across all areas of development, from national diverse leaders. I hold the Houston team in high regard for their volunteerism, generosity and professionalism for making it a success." (S. Javed)
"This is by far the best conference I have ever attended. Despite the attendants' differences in locations, original countries and backgrounds, I connected instantly with everyone at the Summit. The keynote speakers' success stories were truly inspiring and motivational; they made me believe that if they can, then I can too. I wish the Summit would be once a year event, not every two years, because I am already looking forward to the 2013 Summit."(T. Pham)
