"Only in America can I, an Oriental Beauty Jewess, whose father was a famous 100% Korean Presbyterian minister, mother the Korean Tammy Faye Bakker, handicapped since birth with a predominately Jewish physical handicap (Dystonia), born in Texas (the heart of the bible belt), grew up in the Catskills (the heart of the Borscht belt), gets out of the wheelchair to do stand up, teaches all the little children Hebrew for Bar/Bat Mitzvah, ran for Council as a Republican, does all sorts of community service and mitzvot...(gasp for air)...now hang as an exhibit in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC." Daphne Kwok Appointed to Chair President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders
The Center for APA Women offers its congratulations to Daphne Kwok - APAWLI Fellow - Class of 2000. Daphne was appointed by President Obama to chair the President's White House Initiative on Asian American and Pacific Islanders! She has made a lifetime commitment to improving the lives of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. She can draw on her extensive experience of advocating on behalf of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders at the state, local and national level. Her strong leadership, familiarity with the community, national organizations, elected officials and other key stakeholders will serve her well as she assumes this critical position. 2010 APAWLI Fellows Gain More than Just Development
In June, The Center for Asian Pacific American Women proudly graduated their 2010 National APAWLI Fellows in Washington, DC. Earlier this year, January marked the beginning of the 2010 APAWLI Fellowship class. The actual journey began a few months earlier with their application for consideration: several of the sisters joked that the level of detail required in their application required them to reflect back on their entire life and experiences that lead them to their present selves. ... more
